Welcome to YouthCare HealthChoice Illinois
YouthCare is a specialized healthcare program designed specifically to address the needs of DCFS youth in care and former youth in care. YouthCare also offers specialty providers not previously available, as well as additional dental care and more resources on LGBTQ issues, developmental disabilities, care for survivors of human trafficking and expanded telehealth options.
YouthCare is committed to improving outcomes, reducing the burden on those serving these youth, and to assisting overall with the transition to permanency. We strongly believe foster care should be a temporary stay for youth until they return home or find a forever home. We also know that once the judge bangs the gavel, there are still issues to overcome.
HFS and DCFS built the program cooperatively with parents and other stakeholders. To help ensure a smooth transition, YouthCare has established a continuity of care period to ensure families can access current providers through November 29, 2023, even if those providers have not joined the YouthCare network. The program is also reaching out to any out of network provider that families identify. Even those not choosing to join the network may be offered single-case agreements to care for an individual child.
